The Burn is looking for an organised and people-focused House Manager. This role is key in ensuring every guest enjoys outstanding hospitality, immaculate accommodation, and a memorable welcome throughout their stay. This full‑time role offers a salary of £32,000 per annum and includes evening and weekend work as part of a rota, with onsite accommodation provided when covering overnight duties.
As House Manager, you will play a key part in ensuring our guests enjoy high standards of accommodation, a warm welcome, and consistently excellent service throughout their stay. You will oversee the day‑to‑day work of our Housekeeping Assistants and support the Operations Manager in delivering smooth guest arrivals, departures, and general front‑of‑house coordination. The role is hands‑on and varied, ideal for someone who enjoys being involved in everything from room standards to guest communication and operational problem‑solving.
Applicants should be experienced in managing rotas, supporting staff, and communicating with guests in a professional and welcoming manner. Strong organisational and administrative skills are essential, as is the ability to adapt to changing demands with a calm and proactive approach.

We are looking for a reliable Cook to join The Burn’s small catering team. Working closely with the Catering Manager, you will prepare fresh breakfasts, lunches, suppers and baked goods for a wide range of guests, including students, alumni, international visitors and holiday‑let guests. The role includes creating alternative dishes for guests with allergies or specific cultural dietary needs, ensuring meals are ready for scheduled service times, and occasionally acting as the sole Cook for group stays.
You will maintain excellent food safety standards at every stage of food preparation, storage and service, including stock rotation, temperature checks and keeping all kitchen areas and equipment clean and well‑organised. The role also involves helping with ordering supplies, receiving deliveries safely and assisting with stock takes and basic costings.
Applicants should possess a current Level 3 Food Hygiene Certificate and experience working in a professional kitchen, confident in producing a variety of meals and baked items for diverse groups. You should be comfortable working independently or as part of a rota, with strong attention to timing, cleanliness and food hygiene.
