The house stands at the centre of a private estate just outside the town of Edzell and is the perfect base to explore the NE of Scotland. The Burn offers wonderful walks within its estate, including the famous Blue Door walk along the Gannochy Gorge and fishing on the river North Esk (see below). The area offers varied walking and cycling in quiet glens, hills and forests. There also are many whisky distilleries, museums and golf courses to visit within easy reach of The Burn.Find out more
There is plenty of opportunity to go fishing at The Burn with the River North Esk running through our grounds. The Burn beats mark the boundary to the Estate and the river is only 200 metres from the main house. The North Esk is a first class salmon river, draining almost 290 square miles, with brown and sea trout also present.
Our best fishing kicks off around mid-March, though for braver anglers you can still land a fish in February and early March, with the game fishing season running from middle of February to the end of October.
Some 8 named pools are accessible and productive - though it's a bit of a scramble to some. The pools are signed and a beat map will be issued with the permit. Car parking is available at The Burn mansion house from where permits, beat maps and catch returns can be collected from The Burn Office. To view permits, please visit our FishPal page:Fishpal
